Aging and gravity can have their effects on your skin and features, and these effects can be reversed using a brow lift in Salinas. One common sign of aging is the sagging of your eyebrows and forehead, giving your eyes a tired, hooded appearance. Dr. Matthew Romans and Dr. Jeremy Silk can correct this with a brow rejuvenation procedure.
Brow Lift Procedure
Also known as a forehead lift, a Browlift elevates the brow position so that your eyebrows aren’t sagging onto the upper eyelids.
This used to be a much more common procedure and is rarely done today by most plastic surgeons. The reason is that it can lead to an unnatural,
always “surprised” look, can lead to visible scars, and can elevate the hairline. The other major goal was to remove part of the muscle that causes the vertical frown lines between the eyes. These frown lines can now be treated much more effectively with Botox.
Your Initial Consultation
Meet with your surgeon to discuss your forehead lift goals, desired results, and expectations. Your initial consultation is the best time to tell Dr. Romans or Dr. Silk what you want to achieve with your brow lift surgery.
Your surgeon will examine your forehead region to determine the extent of the work. You will be asked to make a series of facial expressions so he will know what areas to target and focus on. You need to be in good physical condition before you undergo this procedure.

Types of Brow Lift Incisions
- Coronal – In the past, it was common to do this in conjunction with a face lift by making an incision from ear-to-ear across the top of the head above the hairline. Skin inside the hairline was then removed and the skin of the forehead was undermined and lifted. This led to a long scar across the top of the head that usually was hidden by hair. It also would elevate the hairline.
- Endoscopic – Minimally invasive (endoscopic) browlifts were very popular for a long time, but were much more difficult technically. Resection of the muscle causing the frown lines was one of the goals of this procedure. With Botox, this is no longer a reason to do an endoscopic browlift so it has become less common.
- Lateral Browlift – Currently, the only browlift that we do is a lateral browlift done through incisions inside the hairline. The goal is the elevation of the lateral brow to give more of an arch. Although this works well, it is not a common procedure because the placement of small amounts of Botox under the lateral brow can achieve similar but subtle results, all without surgery.

The Brow Lift Procedure
A brow lift surgery is usually performed in your surgeon’s clinic or outpatient facility. It does not take more than a few hours, and you might not have to stay a night at the hospital. However, you might need someone to drive you home after your procedure.
A local anesthetic will be administered before any incision is made. When your surgeon is done lifting the tissue in the target area, he will close the incision(s) with sutures and/or staples. Bandages will be applied to secure the area and facilitate faster recovery.
Aftercare and Recovery
It is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions on cleaning and replacing the bandages. Swelling and bruising are normal side effects and should go away in two weeks. Staples and sutures might be removed after a few weeks once the incisions start to close off.
To help with the swelling, you can gently apply cold compresses to the affected area. Your doctor can also prescribe you painkillers if need be.
Cost of Brow Lift Surgery
The total cost of your brow lift surgery can only be determined during Dr. Romans or Dr. Silk’s initial consultation. The price of the treatment varies for each patient depending on the amount of work that needs to be done, along with the techniques used, so it is best to call for an appointment.
